WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

Published: Feb 03 2022

On February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was commemorated. On this day, the role of women and girls in science is recognized, not only as beneficiaries, but also as agents of change. Additionally, on this day, it is emphasized how crucial their participation in technology is to eliminate the discrimination that exists in this area of study and break stereotypes in STEM.

International days serve to make information on issues of concern available to the general public, mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity. Each international day offers many actors the opportunity to organize activities related to the theme of the day. For example, for this year of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, forums were organized around the world to develop opportunities in the private sector, guided visits were made to institutes such as CERN, conferences were held, goals were established with government entities, among many other activities.

It is well known, that both science and gender equality are vital to the achievement of internationally agreed development goals. Over the past decades, the global community has worked hard to inspire and engage women and girls in science and math. However, women and girls are still excluded from fully participating in these issues, making it even more crucial to commemorate these types of days.

We dedicate this Newsletter to women and girls in science, so that we can contribute in a way to accelerate progress and innovation in the world. Within this Newsletter you will find games, kits, books, and even clothing that will inspire girls and women to continue their passion and interest in science.
